I arrive

It was hot.   I arrived at Arlanda Airport north of Stockholm parched with thirst as the security officials at Heathrow have the habit of confiscating any liquid...including bottles of water.   It's all for a good cause but I can't help thinking that airports or airliners make on the deal because they charge exorbitant prices to replace the same bottle of tap water I got almost free from home!

Anyway...Doug had a large bottle of water in the car.

I was given a really splendid welcome from the Karlsson family and since it was supper time we dined outside on the balcony overlooking the bay over the Baltic through the enormous 500-year-old oaks.

My first night was rather surreal, after all I did not expect to sleep under a banana tree with a balmy breeze filtering through the blind and open window.   Well, would you this far north in latitude?

But remember Agnes's Mum, Anna Karin is a botanist and therefore the banana tree becomes more easily explained but it did rather set the tone of the visit warning me to expect the eccentric, the wonderful and the interesting and beautiful experiences I was about to embark upon.
